The Portland Yard, Garden and Patio Show was filled with ideas transferable to home gardens (see my previous post about the edible garden). One of my favorite displays was a planted tea table with a runnel down the center for candles or a stream of water. Believe me, you wanted to sit right down as soon as you saw a table, set fwith flowered teapots and jars of wine and jam, sprouting English daisies, mosses and sedum.
Speaking of sedum...behind the table was a rusty metal screen draped with ribbons of sedum - so eye-catching, and theoretically, anyway, easy care...Don't you love the contrast of the metal with ruffliness of the sedum? Wouldn't this be a perfect garden focal point as well as an effective way to screen a utility area or unwanted view?
And a planted basket exuding nearly as much charm as the tea table..
But lest you think the whole show was rustic and sweet....I loved this modern garden, trimmed with silky golden Japanese forest grass and featuring an inkly black pond reflecting flames of fire.
You can find more photos, information about the designers and the show here.
I'd love to get together to talk healing gardens next time you're in Seattle or I'm in Portland. Great to meet you, thanks for coming to my talk, and let's stay in touch...

So glad that you were delighted with Red Bird's planted Tea-hee-hee Table, Val! (Table and planting design based on those Healing Garden Design theories we talked about... more here: http://bit.ly/1cFibER) And I'm so glad to have made your acquaintance at the show. If only we had a chance to sit and have tea - let's do that when I'm in your neck of the woods next. Looking forward to connecting again and thanks for the shout out of the booth display.
